Tom grew up in Salt Lake City, went to college for illustration, did some time in publishing, and in the end was drawn to advertising. Moving to the Bay Area in 1998 he worked for a handful of great agencies and worked with some other most incredibly talents people on some of the best brands. In 2011 Tom joined Mekanism full-time and has never looked back.


    1.)     What was your very first job? 

Dishwasher at the premier all-you-can-eat buffet of Salt Lake City in the eighties… Duffs Smorgasbord.


    2.)     Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

Tom manages the creative department at Mekanism across all four offices. He also design directs for a handful of accounts including Muscle Milk, Alaska Airlines, Miller/Coors.


    3.)     How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today? 

Tom grew up with a pencil and paper in each hand. Always drawing. Eventually traded in the pencil for a mouse and the rest is history.


    4.)     In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? 

Surround yourself with inspired people who push and challenge each other constantly.


    5.)     If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

Working with the White House on the “It’s on Us” campaign. Being able to focus what your good at to do good is a very powerful thing.
