Chad’s background is specialty media and brand building. A native of Southern California with a BA in Communications from California State University of Long Beach. Chad worked his way from intern to Advertising Sales Manager of the world’s largest publisher of action sports and lifestyle media. Overseeing all ad sales for TransWorld Media’s snowboard and lifestyle titles, Chad left in 1997 to Co-Found Nixon, the premium accessory manufacturer in specialty retail. In 2005 Chad and partner Andy Laats were selected as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in San Diego. In 2008 Chad was elected Vice President of SIMA (Surf Industry Manufacturers Association) Chad resides in Cardiff, CA where he is a husband, father of two children and currently responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Nixon brand and imagery globally.


1. What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now? My first job was at age 14 delivering newspapers on my bike 6 days/week. I am happy I don’t have to wake up early on Sundays for morning delivery!


2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails. I work with the brand marketing and creative teams in driving the creation and maintenance of the Nixon brand and imagery globally.


3. How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today? While working at TransWorld SKATEboarding and SNOWboarding I was constantly working with creative people from all different aspects of graphic design, copywriting, photography and product design which gave me the exposure and created the foundation for what was to come.


4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? Having the opportunity to work with all the talented creators here at Nixon and meshing them and their ideas with those of the world-class athletes, musicians and artists we collaborate with is the melting pot of ideas we like to cook with.


5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be? The Nixon Art Mosh is a globally touring art show mixing the creative pursuits of our artists, athletes, employee’s and friends of the Nixon brand. Showcasing the influential work that inspires our brand The Nixon Art Mosh is a collection of film, photography, music, paint and experiential art bringing together an eclectic mix of creativity.
