Daniel ANDRADE

As Creative Director for Google’s ZOO, based in Paris, Daniel spend most of his days leading collaborative creative efforts, focused on building user-first, unique brand experiences with Google’s technologies for the company’s largest and most strategic clients and agencies.

Since joining in 2008, Daniel also played an integral part in defining YouTube’s value proposition for branding in its early monetization efforts, supported industry-defining partnership content deals such as with the IOC/Olympics, helped market a nascent Google Chrome, and put together a variety of special programs including the global YouTube broadcast of the Royal Wedding.

Prior to joining Google, Daniel worked in design, branding, and advertising in Brazil and in the UK, always with a life-long passion for creating delightful consumer experiences within the digital space using the latest technologies.

1.) What was your very first job?

Illustrator at the Art Department of O Globo, a national newspaper in Brazil.

2.) Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I help Google’s clients to make the best creative use of our platforms and products to enhance their digital campaigns through our proprietary methodology called MAChINE Sprints.

3.) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

One day I felt completely paralysed during a class of an Engineering course I had been taking for 8 months. In that class I realised I wouldn’t have the room I wanted for my creative expression. I left it and sat for hours outside, alone with my thoughts. I dropped out - and joined a Design school.

4.) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I track the award festivals. Also, my work requires me to watch an inordinate amount of YouTube.

5.) If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

A project that never went live. A beautifully convoluted branding system for a venture capital company in Brazil. They went for run-of-the-mill minimalism. Too ambitious for them - still lives in my heart. :)
