Damien MARCHI

Damien Marchi is an Emmy Award winner with multiple hands-on and executive experience at field leading companies across multiple industries (TV and digital entertainment, news, advertising and now gaming) whilst always focusing on merging content, stories, platforms and brands across offline and digital worlds. As VP Marketing & Communications, Damien is member of the executive committee with worldwide responsibility across all marketing, user acquisition and communications activities of Gameloft, the creator of some of the world’s most downloaded mobile games (Dragon Mania Legends, Asphalt, Disney Magic Kingdoms, Minions’ Rush…). Prior to Gameloft, Damien worked in group level global positions at Havas (advertising agency - Dubai Tourism, Swarovski…), FremantleMedia (world’s biggest content producer - The X Factor, Got Talent, YouTube’s SortedFood…) as well as Euronews (the most watched news channel in Europe now part of NBC News).

1.) What was your first job ?

Sales assistant at my local Swatch Store for a summer job. Loved it !

2.) Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

Offering a moment of entertainment to people. More precisely, working with our amazing 500 people team at Gameloft to entice people to download and play with the games we put so much passion into producing and bringing to market. 

3.) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you ? Was there a time in your life that your credit to this discovery ? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today ? 

When playing Lego from the age of 6, I was not building space shuttles or catcles but rather turning these into the backdrop of amazing TV shows that y brother and I would produce for our own TV channel ran from our bedrooms. So in a way, I started "working" in the entertainment industry since a very early age.

4.) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant ?

No matter how many articles I consult every day or meetings I have or books I read... I still find that the best inspiration I get is at the museum or at the theatre, when exposed to pure art forms. 

5.) If you had to pick one piece of work or project that your are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry "success", what would it be ? 

It would have to be an interactive and participative TV show called "C.U.L.T" I helped producing back in 2004 = before YouTube, before what we now call UGC, before Instragram... we had created a daily hour-long window of expression on French TV where people were literally helping putting the show together. The Emmy Award recognition of this show topped what had effectively been a life-changing and never-forget experience, a full year working endless days with amazing people running the show every night and fighting together both the technique and the politics dor this show to exist. These people are forever friends.

6.) What social media artist/accountare you most influenced by ? 

Jon Burgerman. He cleverly uses Instagram filters to add a quirky layer of poetry and humor onto his day-to-day activities mainly his NYC subway commute and his food). Highly recommended.
