Federigo GABELLIERI

After graduating from the European Institute of Design, Federigo made his first steps into the fashion and design industries. From the very beginning he started collaborating with several professionals, trying to be open, as much as as possible, to all the creative markets, participating in fashion fairs and events, editorial and digital projects. He experienced the agency life at M&CSaatchi Milan until he decided to focus on his passion and develop skills in an editorial and multidisciplinary career. Federigo supports several universities in Italy as lecturer and professor in the Graphic Design and Art Direction fields. He is now living in Milano and working at Conde Nast Italy as art and visual designer for GQ.

1. What was your very first job? What does it feels like to look back at it? 

A co-teaching experience at Florence University of the Arts besides first steps into freelancing. I use to look

back with a smile without being too severe.

 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails.

We are a team, first of all. I’m art-directing GQ Magazine visual and graphic elements besides several great

professionals, photo editors, fashion editors and collaborators.

 

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you

credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today?

From a very young age I have definitely always been attracted to beauty. I’ve been lucky enough to be born in a place surrounded by many influences from the arts to food and music. A quiet place which helped me to absorb all these in an intimate way. I was obsessed by details and discoveries, all the things I learned are due to all these elements mixed together. And a shred of luck.

 

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep

your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

Our work is mostly based on passions, which is a privilege actually. A huge part of my work is to keep me

updated on new professionals and trends, which I love to involve into new projects. It’s always a matter of

influences, it works just if you are truly open to it.

 

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work

and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?

We recently made an issue celebrating Google's 20th anniversary. It required a huge effort from everyone

involved, maximum attention from the beginning to the end. A real team work.
