Rebecca O’Donnell is an Australian born Creative Director based in Brooklyn and Upstate New York. Her works encompasses luxury beauty and fashion brands. She designs across multiple mediums including packaging, store design, visual merchandising, digital and campaign direction. She has won numerous awards and is currently consulting as an Executive Creative Director for Laura Mercier in the Shiseido portfolio. Additionally she is launching her own brand Bronty in September of this year.

1) What was your very first job?

 

My first design job was in the art department of Australian Vogue.

 

2) Please explain, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

 

I am a consulting Creative Director specializing in Beauty.

I design stores, merchandising, product and packaging, digital, social content and overall creative direction 

For brands.

 

3) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What were the train of events that brought you to where you are today?

 

I started out in Political journalism then law then design :)

I think the discovery was more gradual as I come from a creative family and it

Was more embracing that I could actually do something I love full time and get paid for it!

 

My move from Australia to New York nearly 13 years ago really was the push I needed to

Get to where my career is today.

 

4) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, relevant, and innovative?

 

I travel a ton and this always keeps me inspired.

Reading and looking at industries that are not necessarily related to design and photography always

Keeps me looking for something new.

Plus working and collaborating with other creatives is a way to keep things fresh and innovative,

 

5) If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required rather than recognition or "industry success," what would it be?

 

That’s hard - I would say my top three would be the “My Burberry” original campaign and concept, Laura Mercier my current project as we have 

Looked at every element of the brand from the logo to the stores and lastly Bronty my brand I am launching with Susie Coulter later this year.

Actually Bronty probably takes top billing as it’s a passion project based on botanicals which I love!
