 Before starting the Donald Schneider Studio in 2002, Donald has been the Creative Director at French Vogue and Vogue Hommes International between 1993 and 2002, working closely with many of the best fashion houses, designers, photographers, stylists, artists and new talents. Before that he was based in New York and was Art Director for different magazines, Fame, EV Eye, etc and was part of the legendary Area-Club art department.Since 2002 Donald developed a unique relationship with H&M, creating many iconic campaigns for them. In 2004 Donald Schneider initiated the legendary first H&M designer collaboration, with Karl Lagerfeld. Between 2010 and 2015 Donald was H&M’ s Global Creative Director in Stockholm, being responsible for all creative aspects of the H&M brand worldwide. Since then he continues to work regularly on special projects and campaigns for H&M, for example all the annual designer collaborations (Versace, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela, Balmain, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, Kenzo, Erdem, Moschino, Giambattista Valli, etc.) With his Donald Schneider Studio team, Donald is working with different international fashion and luxury brands, specializing in developing innovative ideas and 360° campaign concepts. The unique core competence is „collaborations“, the new way of marketing and creating attention for brands.   Donald has won numerous awards, also „The Creative Leader of the Year“ at the Lead Awards in 2010. 1. What was your very first job?
Designing the shopping bag for the local record store 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.
What I like most about my job is coming up with ideas. New ideas, combining things in unusual ways, bringing together talents. With our studio we’re specialized in „collaborations“. The first part on a project is always R&D, diving into the clients universe, doing workshops with them, getting to know them. Then the creative process starts, coming up with ideas for collaboration partners and even more important, a unique concept for the whole project. Then it’s usually us contacting the collaboration partner and guiding the whole process, especially the creative part. And then of course our core expertise, creating the whole campaign and strategy. I very much like the collaborative aspect of that, working together with talented people and creating something unique together. With photographers, film directors, editors, stylists, set designers, sound designers, 3D artists etc  Sometimes I direct the videos myself. 

 3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Was there a train of events that brought you to where you are today?
At age 14, back in Zürich, my mother took me to an Andy Warhol exhibition at the Kunsthaus. That was definitely my moment of discovery! Still a very vivid memory. It’s also the first time I saw Interview magazine... and asked my mother if I could get a subscription as Xmas gift. So from then on, once a month an envelope arrived from New York, with the latest Interview magazine. That was my calling.

4. In a constantly changing world, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
It's all about curiosity. I like finding out about new things, reading, discovering, learning, looking for obscure things, new talents, old forgotten things, anything! It’s also about growing your own network, having inspiring conversations with inspiring people. And its also about finding your best balance between input and output.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?
 I guess it would be that I had the idea for the first big fashion collaboration, "Karl Lagerfeld for H&M“, back in 2004. And then creating the campaign for it, with Karl shooting it as self-portraits together with Erin Wasson. Developing all this together with Karl and with the H&M team, inventing step by step how to do a collaboration… it was a complete adrenalin rush. We all felt we were onto something big, but we had no idea if it will work or not. It did work ;-)

6. Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? Which of these disciplines are you most interested in seeing at CONNECTIONS? (ie photo, film, production, social, experiential, vr, cgi, animation etc)
All of them! All of these disciplines are connected, when doing projects and campaigns
