Matteo Sessa VITALI

Marketing Consultant | 

Matteo has worked for 20 years in the luxury fashion industry, holding multiple senior roles from Marketing to E-commerce to Licensing, in multiple geographies for top Groups such as Kering and Prada. 

More recently he has advised smaller independent brands in Europe and North America on their e-commerce and marketing strategy. 

In search of an additional creative outlet, Matteo moonlights as a cartoonist through his Instagram account @fashioncartoonist.

What was your very first job? 

My very first job was for an international youth-run nonprofit organization. My first job in fashion, a few years later, was working as an assistant to Prada Group CEO Patrizio Bertelli. 

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I currently work as a consultant advising independent brands and companies who seek me out because of my understanding of fashion and luxury European brands combined with strong knowledge of the North American market, where I have lived and worked for the past 12 years. 

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Was there a train of events that brought you where you are today?

I landed my first job at Prada completely by chance, at a time when I knew absolutely nothing about fashion, but I quickly fell in love with the creativity ad craftsmanship that surrounded me. 

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

Genuine curiosity and a constant desire to keep learning are key in a world where the pace of change keeps accelerating. 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation rather than its recognition or industry "success," what would it be?

I am very proud of having led a successful collaboration many years ago between a family-owned Italian luxury company and a Korean consumer electronics conglomerate: despite so much potentially ready to be “lost in translation” we managed to create a beautiful and very innovative product together. 

Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? Which of these disciplines are you most interested in seeing at CONNECTIONS? (ie photo, film, production, social, experiential, vr, cgi, animation etc)

I am constantly fascinated by all the advances in technology and by the struggle to separate fads and gimmicks from truly meaningful innovations.
