Camila is an Associate Creative Director at R/GA Brazil focused across Samsung workstreams. Prior to R/GA, Camila worked at Wunderman Thompson, FCB, and Lew'Lara\TBWA. 

Her work has been recognized with awards like El Ojo and Effies, and she and the honor of sitting in the jury of local and international festivals, including 2020’s Brazilian Creative Club. 

Beyond advertising, Camila is a multitasking mom, gender equality advocate, and illustration enthusiast. In 2020, she was featured among the 30 creatives that fought to change the Communication Industry by Papel&Caneta.

Her client list includes Samsung, Netflix, Coca-Cola, Nissan, Brastemp, and Avon.

What was your very first job? 

I studied Advertising at the University of São Paulo and the school had a Junior Ad Agency (called ECA Jr) run by us students. I was one of the creative directors there, we had real clients and projects and worked with the consultancy of our teachers.

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I'm an Associate Creative Director at R/GA, alongside my partner Ariane Polvani, I create and lead the São Paulo team for Samsung's global account. 

 

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Was there a train of events that brought you where you are today?

As a kid, I didn't care much about advertising, but I loved everything that revolved around creativity: drawing, writing, disassembling toys to create new stuff. During high school, I found out through a colleague that there were such things as ad agencies and creative professionals, and that they worked in teams of copywriters and art directors. It just struck me that I could get paid for doing something I loved. Before, I was planning on becoming a psychologist, but that discovery completely changed my mind. I applied to study Advertising instead and fell in love with this profession.

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative, and relevant?

Keeping up with innovative advertising work can be a great source of inspiration, but I believe striking insights come from bursting the ad bubble and looking for inspiration somewhere else, everywhere else. I appreciate reading fiction books, following artists and illustrators, seeing music videos, movies, documentaries, taking different online classes (from watercolor to yoga); and watching talks about the important social movements we’re living. I’m a gender and racial equality advocate and I feel like I still have a lot to learn and so does our industry, if we want to make a difference and stay relevant as a business.

 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation rather than its recognition or industry "success," what would it be?

At this moment, it would be the project I created with the Wunderman Thompson team for Coca-Cola last year on Women’s Day. We transformed the brand’s ribbon in a graph showing the growth of female achievements over the years–for example: up to 1981 only 1 woman had gone to space and by 2020 this number went up to 65. On the billboards, we see the curve keeps rising beyond the frame, to represent how much more we hope to conquer in the future. The copy reads “Taste the Change. Coca-Cola.”
