Gloria Maria Cappelletti has built a reputation as a pioneer in digital art, and through her well-regarded namesake Gloria Maria Gallery, has shown and supported some of the most influential digital artists of our generation, often quite early in their careers, such as Petra Cortright, Rafaël Rozendaal and Amalia Ulman. Agent and Producer for the International photographers agency Management Artists since 1999, she has been managing photographers and directors such as Steven Klein, Stephane Sednaoui and Daniel Sannwald to name a few. Curator of the Fashion Film Festival Milano, Cappelletti is also the Editor at Large of Italy since 2013, and Creative Director of VICE Fashion & Luxury Group Italy, the full service creative agency by VICE Media, which covers research, strategy, creative development, production, content distribution and activation worldwide.


1. What was your very first job?

I did a part-time internship at the Chanel Press Office in Milan, while I was in University.

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

The best part of my job is Research. I love to discover new talents, photographers, directors, artists, outsiders etc. Then I try to find projects and clients that allow me to work with them. This scouting and connecting activity entails trust in the new generation and the desire to find new paths for visual communication.

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What were the train of events that brought you to where you are today?

My late grandfather was a painter and I discovered the creative world through his eyes. He is still today my main inspiration and will always be. Also I did live and work in New York in the late 90’s and early 2000s  and I met truly inspiring people working in the fashion industry, such as Stephen Sprouse, Martin Margiela, Steven Klein, Patti Wilson, Terry Jones... just to name a few. I have been very lucky to work with these people and I learned so much. 

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I don’t have a television, I read books and try to avoid socials. I just go with my gut feelings and spend time with people that have a critical approach to mainstream information.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

My Gloria Maria Gallery was a great experiment for avant garde digital art. The artists I exhibited for the first time in Italy are now included in important museums worldwide, such as the Tate London or New Museum in NY. Commercially it was a failure, but now I can say my creative vision was right and I am proud of it.
