Over the past ten years, Megan has worked with Martha Stewart, Wired Magazine, Vampire Weekend, and a handful of tech startups, to build consumer campaigns and content across editorial, advertising, web and social media. For ten years she has been mentoring children interested in the arts, with Free Arts NYC, Big Brothers Big Sisters NYC and New York Cares. She is also a painter whose designs have been featured in collaboration with Esby Apparel, M. Gemi, Court Street Grocers and Declan.

1. What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?
My first job was at a car wash in Florida. It feels distant TBH.
 
2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails.
Creative Director at R29. A lot of throwing creative darts.
 
3. How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today?
Creativity was the only thing that held my interest for more than 10 minutes. If you want to be creative at your job, you'll prioritize it. It's a long-game, so avoiding short-term fancy titles and cushier paychecks to focus on gaining the right skills helps.
 
4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
Taking the time to slow down and to be fully present is essential for me to produce quality work. Practicing self-care, active listening, giving others my full attention, looking into things a little deeper by doing research, are the things that help keep my perspective fresh. I find the most essential thing for keeping my work innovative is to stay curious. This comes from listening to podcasts, reading the Sunday Times, engaging with someone I wouldn’t normally, volunteering, reading, looking at old books, watching old films, checking out art, keeping my eyes open. And of course, nothing makes me feel more inspired than traveling and laying my eyes upon something I’ve never seen before.
 
5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?
Recently worked on the creative direction for The Money Diaries podcast. Was exciting to immerse myself in a medium I was unfamiliar with, but also to create something that normalizes people's fears and questions around money.
