Kym Carranza-Meurer leads teams across Colle McVoy and its branded practices Exponent PR and 10 Thousand Design to produce branded content, branded entertainment, experiential, social, mobile, emerging platforms and more. 

Carranza-Meurer has more than 20 years’ experience in the entertainment and digital production industries, including the development of television, feature films and online media campaigns. Her expertise has been honed from working at top entertainment, advertising and digital companies like MTV, Disney ABC Television and Tuesday Creative. She has represented diverse clients in sports, fashion, music, mobile and entertainment such as American Express, Andrè Balazs Properties, T-Mobile, DC Shoes, Geek Squad, Lucasfilm, Jamba Juice, Dairy Queen, and Tony Hawk, Inc. 


Colle McVoy’s content production practice continues to grow out of projects that include global content for Invisalign, Cub Cadet, Cenex and 3M’s Command brand. Its focus is on creating compelling content that moves people. When people are moved, they are motivated to act.


1. What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now? 

My very first job was in casting at MTV for the “Real World” and “Road Rules”. Looking back to that time, it was an exciting time at MTV…I was 19, young, a lot to learn and was lucky enough to be groomed by some of the best TV and Film executives in the business, which taught how to look at creative in different ways. I was in a powerful place at such a young age and I wish I would have taken it in more than I did.


2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails. 

I am currently the Director of Content at Colle McVoy. I look at my client’s needs and work with creatives to build a brand campaign and create stories that move people. I oversee a team of DPs, Editors, Directors and Producers. I am the producer on a variety of brands, and see the production from beginning to delivery.


3. How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today? 

I’ve know from the time that I was a little girl that I wanted to create stories that truly resonated with people and made them feel something. That started in television and film and then now onto the brand and commercial side of things. I met Dawn Parouse Olmstead, who at the time, just left SNL as a producer and she groomed me. She taught me that there is a story inside of everything and to seek it out and develop it. I was hooked. From Minnesota, I went to LA where I worked for almost 22 years and when my dad got sick, I came back here to help with out and take care of him until his passing. Through this time, I was able to find two incredible places to work that embraced my hybrid background, before that was a thing.


4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I.Read.Everthing. I.Watch.Everything. I study people and am fascinated by how they tick, what they want, what moves them and where their passions lye, and that’s how I get to my next.


5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

Vermont Creamery Stories….coming to a screen near you.


6. Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? (ie photo, film, social, experiential, vr, etc) Film and Experiential. 

Film moves people and takes an army of collaboration and passion to make and Experiential because people, including myself, want real, tangible experiences. I love the way a flat experience can come to life with creativity and forethought. It’s what drives me.
