In his role as an Executive Producer for Leo Burnett USA, Juan Woodbury has produced iconic, award-winning broadcast work for clients including Samsung, Coca-Cola, Nintendo, The U.S. Army, Intel, Sprint, Kellogg’s,

McDonald’s, Disney, Firestone, Morgan Stanley, P&G, Allstate, USPS, and Miller/Coors. As the industry evolved and clients’ marketing mix included more experiential marketing, Juan founded Humankind Experiential (HKX),

Leo Burnett’s experiential marketing division, of which he is the Executive Producer and Experiential Creative Director. HKX has gone on to execute events for clients including Samsung, Jenn-Air, Pfizer, Firestone, Allstate,

Kellogg’s, P&G, McDonald’s, Intel, Best Buy, ComEd, and Kraft along with Kevin Hart’s HartBeat Weekend, which included stand-up shows by Hart and others, and a concert by Drake. In 2019, for the 5th time, Juan will concept,

design and produce the opening and closing night galas for the Cannes Festival of Creativity. Recognizing the value that Juan’s ideas were bringing to client’s work, in 2018 he was named to a hybrid role as

Creative Director for the agency. Despite a challenging schedule with Leo Burnett, Juan still makes time for his other creative passions. For 20 years, Juan has produced and remixed tracks for award-winning international artists and is a premier DJ for premium events. He has performed on every continent except Antarctica, from Barcelona to Miami to Tokyo, Auckland to LA to Rio, Miami to Senegal to Santo Domingo. Through his production company Bento

Entertainment, Juan produced Birds of a Feather, a feature film starring Snoop Dogg and Iza Lach. Juan started his career in film as a Videographer, Editor and Director of Special Events for ABC News. He then worked as an editor and ACSR Avid Engineer, managing clients including ABC, NBC, USA Network, MTV and VH1. Juan’s photography has been gaining attention, and his photos of LeBron James and Serena Williams have recently been published in national publications. What was your very first job?

I helped my mother as a PA in her studio.  I prepped the studio space, ran errands and when she had a booking, I was her roadie.

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

I design experiences that create feelings for brands.  As the director of HKX, Leo Burnett’s experiential arm, either working with creatives or working straight from a client brief, I concept, bid, and produce live events, stunts and activations and deliver content for future use by the client.

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today? 

I discovered the creative world through my mother.  She was a painter and a musician and she inspired me to work hard and to keep working to unearth beautiful outcomes.

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? 

I rarely turn down an opportunity for a new experience.  I am voracious do-er because I never want to miss a thing that might be important to my work as a maker. 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

The commercial “Pickup” I made with Lance Accord for Firestone.  It tells the story of a young couple who gets caught eloping.  It was one of those shoots when everything clicks;  the casting was lovely, Lance shot such beautiful film and we scored it with a poignant song by the artist Daniel Johnston.  Just great.
