Oliver is Unit Creative Director at Kolle Rebbe in Hamburg, where he works for clients such as Audi, TUI Cruises and Hansgrohe.

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1974, Oliver studied media and communication economics before beginning his career as a copywriter at D'Arcy Hamburg in 2000. After winning his first awards for BURGER KING, he moved to the agency Philipp und Keuntje in 2001. There, he worked for clients such as Yellow Pages, Tetra Pak, Audi and Lamborghini. During this time, he won several international awards, including Cannes, Cresta, Epica, Clio, Montreux, Red Dot and the German ADC.

In 2004, his wedding guests were invited to choose the surname of the bridal couple. Since then, Oliver was „forced“ to change his name from Gill to Ramm. From 2008 to 2012, the newly styled Oliver Ramm worked as a freelance creative director at many reputable agencies for clients such as Axe, Volkswagen, IKEA, Porsche and Lufthansa – and would take home additional awards for his efforts.

The personal highlight of his career, however, is not an award, but the TVC "People are People" for the VW Golf, in which his childhood idol, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan, plays along. He developed the script as freelancer with the agency Grabarz & Partner. Oliver is member of the German Art Directors Club. He lives together with his wife and two sons near Hamburg.

1. What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?

TV-Producer. But then I realized, that creating scripts is much more exciting than producing them.

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails.

I am Unit Creative Director at Kolle Rebbe, Hamburg. My job is to lead, motivate and direct several creative teams and make sure that we create powerful and relevant ideas for our clients. And overall: making sure, that our people feel happy and are proud to belong to the team.

3. How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today?

During my studies, I worked as a writer for a German late night show. So I discoverd writing and scripting as my passion. After my studies, I started in the TV department of an agency, where somebody spotted my „creative Talent“. I won some awards, jumped to another agency, worked several years as a freelancer – and here we go. Now I am at Kolle Rebbe.

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

Netflix. Trains. Waiting Rooms. Traveling.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?

I think it’s the TVC "People are People" for the VW Golf, in which my all time childhood idol, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan, plays along. It’s not really a creative masterpice, but hey: in the making-off, Dave tells that he liked the idea. That’s why he said yes, although he normally never does ads. BAM!
