Bettina was born and raised in Hamburg. She started 1994 as an Art Buying Assistant at BBDO Hamburg, after living and attending high school and Temple University in Philadelphia for two years and studying Economics at the University of Hamburg. After working for diverse agencies, mostly within the BBDO and DDB Network,  she started working as a photo editor at Effilee magazine ( a magazine for food and lifestyle), lateron as a freelance Art Buyer and photo agent. Her various clients included Henkel, Eduscho magazine, Telekom, GQ, Wella, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Audi/VW, Effem/pet food, AGS and Klingel Fashion Catalogue, Sony Magazine etc.

Bettina was employed at OTTO GmbH & Co KG in 2014  and started as an Art Buyer solely in the print sector for mens and womenswear, until she moved to the OTTO Fotostudio in 2016. Here, together with her two Art Buying colleagues, she is responsible for fashion content productions which include  OTTO.de as well as the fashion catalogues, specializing in  mens - and womenswear for Plus Sizes, menswear and kids fashion.

1. What was your very first job?

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails.

I am an Art Buyer at OTTO GmbH & Co KG.

I am specialized in Artbuying and model boking for Online and catalogue photography (which is now called Content) at OTTO regarding Fashion Photography (men´s fashion, men´s and women´s Plus Size and Children ´s wear in particular ).

3. How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today?

I always loved art, fashion, architecture and photography, especially black/white photography. I grew up surrounded by music from the 70ies (mother) and classical music (father) as well as expressionist art.. I‘ve had many friends working for advertising agencies around the world. So it quickly became evident to me, that I would start my first job in a creative field and started working  for an advertising agency (BBDO Hamburg) as an intern, later on as an Art Buying Assistant.

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

You have to stay curious, stay motivated, love your job, be willing to learn something new - constantly. People and traveling can inspire you a lot. Otherwise you won´t be able to develop, stay fresh. My family keeps me focused on what´s important in life, and I love to debate with my son about politics, environmental matters, architecture, films, music, food. We love food and travelling. Since I have many relatives around the world, there´s always something to experience.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?

That´s hard to say. I try to make the best out of any job, but I don´t have a specific work. I actually had a lot of fun working on a special calendar about typical stuff from Hamburg, things, places and persons, e.g. the famous „Franzbrötchen“ ( a croissant-like invention) Aale Dieter, the Safari Sex Club in St. Pauli ( Hamburg´s red light district )...  I had to contact and interview a lot of different wonderful people for that on my own - and I like people!
