Pedro Americo is a globally awarded creative director and a punk rocker from Brazil. With 15+ years of experience and had worked in different countries such as UK, Romania and Brazil, he is currently working for BBDO Berlin.

Throughout his advertising career, Pedro has worked for clients like Ford, Mercedes, Opel, BMW, Volkswagen, o2, Katjes, Nike, German Red Cross, Coca Cola, L’Oreal, Vichy and many others.

His creative work has been recognized at all major award shows but the award that he’s proud the most is the one he got with his Brazilian band Hill Valleys for the best independent rock/pop album of the year in 2005 from Dynamite Magazine.


1. What was your very first job? 

Well, the first money I made for myself was actually fixing friend’s computers. And also playing gigs with my band. My first job in advertising was in an in-house agency at my university. We were responsible of doing the comms pieces to advertise all courses, so this was fun. 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I am a Creative Director at BBDO Germany in Berlin, working for brands like Ford, Nike, Dr. Oetker among others. My job consists of managing, administrating, and guiding the creative teams and their outputs, and together with them create outstanding and relevant creative pieces to help our clients.

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Was there a train of events that brought you where you are today?

My art teacher in school was the one who introduced me into the world of advertising. I always had a neck for art and I thought I was going to be a cartoonist. I didn’t know what art direction was. But once I learned about it, I decided to give it a shot. And I loved it.

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

In life. Life is inspiring. Yep, it is a cliché, but so true. You must live to find inspiration, so be open to new experiences and inputs. You must be up to date with what is happening around you. You have to be naturally curious and welcome all kinds of cultural inputs. Never be that person who doesn’t know anything about K-pop because you like metal. 

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation rather than its recognition or industry "success," what would it be?

I would say the Katjes campaign ‘all veggie’ for the german maket. A campaign to launch vegetarian sweets that woke up a discussion about integration and discrimination in German society, even provoking strong reactions from the far-right party AFD. 

6. Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? Which of these disciplines are you most interested in seeing at CONNECTIONS? (ie photo, film, production, social, experiential, vr, cgi, animation etc)

I am a tech nerd and with a art direction background, so I would love to see what’s on non-traditional and new technologies. But also, I have a special place for print ads, photography and illustration in my heart.
