Christian SOMMER


Christian was born and raised in a small German city near the Bavarian alps. He studied fashion design and started his professional career as a fashion designer. When developing the campaign for his first clothing collection, he fell in love with advertising and studied communication design in Munich. He graduated with Summa cum Laude and started his career as a trainee at Serviceplan Munich where within three years he became Creative Director for integrated campaigns. His work helped significantly to turn Serviceplan into one of the most creative independent agency groups in the world.

Being a professional ski guide, he followed in 2009 his passion for the mountains and relocated to Switzerland. In Zurich he built up the newly founded agency of Scholz & Friends that soon became a relevant player in the Swiss Market.

In 2012 he became a founding member of Serviceplan’s new Swiss agency group and quickly led it as Chief Creative to widespread national and international success. In 2016 he got appointed as Creative Managing Director of Serviceplan Munich.

During his career, Christian developed international campaigns for clients like Adidas, Amnesty International, BMW, Bosch, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bahn, Sympatex, Migros, Mini, Oakley and many more.

He won and also judged multiple awards in the most important national and international festivals.


1. What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?
I was selling clothes in a small fashion shop. And I really liked It, it helped me a lot to learn to interact with people and to adapt to all different kind of taste and feelings. 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails?
Curating the best Ideas of our teams and help them to bring them to life the best possible way. For ourselves and of course for our clients. And of course, develop and transform our teams and our agency further.

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? and which train of events did bring you to where you are today?
As a kid I had the luck to travel a lot with my parents. Therefore, I spent a lot of time in cars, airports and hotels. Sometimes the only things I had to play with, was a pen some sheet of paper and my fantasy. And of course, a lot of inspirations from the surroundings and circumstances.

 4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
It is still the same principle as when I was a little kid. Travel a lot and inhale the surroundings and the energy.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?
I was very proud of being able curate a light installation all over Switzerland for their National Holiday.
