Matt Scoville is a VP, Executive Producer at Energy BBDO in Chicago. He is responsible for the production strategy and execution globally, across multiple Omnicom agencies, for one of the largest CPG companies in the world, Over the course of his career, Scoville has worked on Samsung, LG, Google, Bud Light, PepsiCo McDonalds, Allstate, and The National Safety Council. His work has been awarded at the Cannes Lions international Festival of Creativity, D&AD, the Clios, and the Effies.


What was your very first job?

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I oversee global production and execution of creative work for a large CPG client across multiple Omnicom agencies. 


How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

In college, I studied Graphic Communication in the Industrial Technology Department. It was during my studies I identified that my passion resided at the intersection of art and technology. I started my career in print production at a predominantly film-focused agency. This gave me the foundation I needed in craft and detail, along with the desire to expand into motion-based mediums. With the integration of the production department, I was able to develop and hone skills across all platforms and channels, ultimately leading me to the broadcast production department at BBDO.


In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? 

Talk. There are so many people out in the world doing amazing work. Find them. Ask them questions. There’s always something new to learn.Push. If it’s too easy, you’re not pushing hard enough. Try. Try new things. PA on a series set. Line produce a documentary. Learn a new language. Start a collective.  Be prepared to fail, but don’t quit.


If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

The National Safety Council “Prescribed to Death” project is the one I’m most proud of. It was well crafted and utilized creative innovations.
