Hector is the Chief Brand Officer at Rimowa. Previously, worked as the Creative Director of Digital at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. He has held creative and executive positions at Apple, Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, Wieden+Kennedy in Amsterdam and VICE Media in Central Europe, where he developed award-winning creative for brands including Nike and Coca Cola.

What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?

At 18, I worked as a writer for a local lifestyle magazine. I could go to concerts and movies for free, and got to keep the books I reviewed, so it was the perfect teenage dork’s dream. 

 

Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails?

I’m the Chief Brand Officer of RIMOWA, in charge of the brand’s creative and strategic output across all channels and platforms.

 

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? and which train of events did bring you to where you are today?

Since I was a kid, I’ve always liked to write and tell stories, both verbally and visually. When I was 10 years old, my mom took me to the cinema to see ‘Taking Care of Business’, a movie where James Belushi plays a fugitive who impersonates an advertising executive. I remember being fascinated by how those ad guys were able to convey complex messages in concise, creative and unexpected ways. Also, he had a huge house and an awesome watch collection.

 

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

In the places I go, and the people I met. I must be constantly on the move. Also, by reading outside of the industry’s literature - biochemistry is a favourite of mine.

 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?

Raising a kid is by far the most creatively challenging project, and an ongoing one. I’m also not mad at the work we did at Apple, particularly with iPhone and Apple Watch.
