Dirk has worked as a Creative Director and Art Director for fifteen years in various fields and for different fashion brands and publishing houses such as Condé Nast Germany, S.Oliver, 0039Italy and von Jungfeld. For Condé Nast Germany he worked as Art Director for the Mercedes Benz Magazine for over 3 years and developed the Magazine "she’s Mercedes".

During the last two years he specialized in brand building, collaboration projects and concepts. Works include a CocaCola Capsule Collection for 0039Italy and the upcoming Disney Capsule Collection for the new label AYBI by Aysen Bitzer. But most importantly he is looking forward to the launch of his own label with a great team behind it. He is responsible for the soul of the label, the creative content and leads the creative brand team. It concentrates on high quality modern basics and will be revealed very soon.



What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?

I worked in an advertisement agency concentrating on tourism clients, Producing catalogs.In that category taught me a lot about how crucial it is to be organized besides the creativity.


Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails?

I have launched a label for sustainable modern basics called PHYNE. We focus on high quality products for a moderate price, whereas the sustainability of our products is taken for granted. At this point, I am focusing on brand building and shaping the label, so that it becomes visible. Besides that, I work as Creative Director for a bi-annual fashion supplement named FOCUS STYLE.


How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? and which train of events did bring you to where you are today?

At first, I studied drama. At one point I was not sure anymore if I was doing the right thing and by doing an internship I ended up in graphic design. After a few years I was asked to support the team of the former Art Director of VOGUE Germany, Reto Brunner. We have worked on several projects together for about three years and I have learned a huge amount from him. If had to call someone my mentor, it would be him.


In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I love to dive into different cities and just suck up their energy. Just a short trip to Paris, Lisbon or Barcelona for example, gives me a boost.


If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?

That would be PHYNE. Giving up a long-term work relationship with Condé Nast and starting a from zero with start-up Label is surely an ongoing adventure at this point.

I love the idea and the philosophy behind what we do, and I hope that many people will recognize the difference that we are trying to make and change their perspective.
