‘Un/Applied Arts’ gives readers first-ever insights into the work of product designer Jakob Timpe, presenting furniture and lighting fixtures produced by brands such as Alias, Marset, Serien, Vondingen, and Nils Holger Moormann as well as unpublished projects and studies. This book of objects addresses their ‘appliability’ with the same unbiasedness it demonstrates in oscillating between monograph, magazine, and catalogue. The book is split into two parts. The first one on glossy paper with diverse images and bold typography refesr to advertisments, which address to the market, as the designer questions whether his work is applied or not. It acts as a visual table of content, therefore the page numbers lead to the second part on uncoated paper, where detailed information about the product is provided. It gives insights into his work through showing sketches, the process, prototypes and the un — as well as realized products.
