Born in The Netherlands, Guillaume Philibert is raised in a tight-knit family where creativity and ambition are nourished and encouraged. His family hails from the South American country Surinam. Surinam is a melting pot of ethnicities, with a unique blend of various cultures - African, East India, Indonesian, Chinese and European amongst others.It is this melting pot of roots that forms the foundation of the ideal world Filling Pieces stands for. Filling Pieces was born in 2009 from the ideal to bridge the gap between different worlds. At first mainly the gap between high-end fashion and streetwear and later on it became much more than just the sneaker.
It was during his architectural studies that Guillaume -at age nineteen- got inspired to develop his first pair of sneakers according to his own aesthetics. He always had a love for athletic trainers, but grew to appreciate the luxury sneakers for its rich material usage, level of detail and craftsmanship. His vision was focussed on the gap that existed between luxury footwear and athletic trainers.
The signature Low Top was more than just a shoe. It became a symbol of affordable luxury design. The product that levelled the playing field. The Low Top proved that you can have an artisanal product, handmade by family-run ateliers in Portugal with generations of knowledge and constructed from the finest Italian leathers at amazing and fair prices.
Not only that, it proved that great design and product can unify people. A sneaker adopted by people of all sexes, races, religions, sexualities. Design free from prejudice and societal baggage. Design that exists to bridge the gaps between people. Design that crossed boundaries.
Apart from his vision driving Guillaume to found Filling Pieces, he feels a continuous drive to build a company in his particular idealistic manner. The FP family is a melting pot of cultures, backgrounds, roots and styles, sharing a kindred ambition to create freely and challenge status quo.
What started with just one product - the Low Top - today has grown in to a global fashion brand with an extended universe of footwear, ready to wear and accessories, having launched its inaugural ready to wear collection in collaboration with Barneys New York in March 2018.
At age 29, Guillaume is creative director of Filling Pieces - heading up the global contemporary fashion brand sold at the finest retail destinations such as, Barneys New York, KITH NYC, Boon the Shop, United Arrows & Sons, and 10 Corso Como Shanghai in over 45 countries.
