Marek Szaniawski serves as Creative Director at Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing focusing on development of creative concepts and campaign designs. With more than 15 years of advertising experience in entertainment, he currently manages a team of designers who support the marketing efforts of the industry’s leading producer of television content. Prior to joining Warner Bros., he was Senior Art Director for MGM Home Video and Senior Art Director for Jacobson & Atkins Advertising. He is Originally from Poland, graduated from Graphics Department at Academy of Fine Art with Masters Degree in Poster Design and Animation Film. Awarded Fulbright Scholarship, he studied Photography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

1. What was your very first job?

My first job was at Jacobson & Atkins Advertising, agency servicing entertainment industry.

 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

Creative Director at Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing focusing on development of creative concepts and print campaign designs.

 

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

I supposed to be a doctor, cardiologist. One day, after my exams to medical school, coming back home from hospital where I regularly visited my older friend who was a doctor, I had revelation, out of the blue, that I don’t want to be MD anymore and want to study graphic design and photography. This was the beginning of my new profession…

 

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

It’s a journey…I often go to museums, read books, study art magazines and observe my surroundings. It’s a subconscious and highly intuitive process…can be painful and exhausting.

 

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

There is no single one piece of work/project that I can select. However, there were several Ellen DeGeneres show launches I am proud of. Every year we are tasked with the challenge of bringing a fresh face to Ellen DeGeneres Show, devising innovative eye-catching photography and graphics that will surprise, sustain and drive daily audiences, keeping it as one of the most popular talk shows in television broadcast and online.
