Michel Mallard is a creative director of art and media. He provides innovative creativity behind the re-launching of magazines such as Vogue Hommes International, L’Officiel de la Mode and Jalouse. Michel has done advertising campaigns for Kenzo Perfumes, Azzaro pour Homme and Jean Paul Gaultier. As an exhibition curator, he has created and organized exhibitions with artists such as Melvin Sokolsky, Steven Meisel, Steven Klein, Guy Bourdin, Saul Leiter, Inez & Vinoodh, Peter Knapp and Viviane Sassen. His Paris-based art direction studio has designed books for Thomas Ruff, Jonas Mekas and Jean Baptiste Mondino. He has just completed curating and designing the Louis Vuitton Fashion Photography book. For the past 13 years, he has curated the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography as well as curating the Mexico Photography Biennial in 2015 and Case Studies exhibition at Centro Mexico City in 2012. Also, Michel has recently overseen the opening of the Louis Vuitton Fashion Photography Exhibition in Marina Bay, Singapour.

Michel Mallard co-directs FABRICA in Treviso Italy. He develops projects for Louis Vuitton, Benetton and CIE/Formula 1 Mexico.

1. What was your very first job?
Creative Director at L'Autre Journal, Cultural Magazine Paris.

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.
Creative Troublemaker.

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was the chain of events that brought you to where you are today?
Since I was a kid, I was living through the influence the work of my father Ernesto Mallard, Kinetic Op Graphic Artist. I owe him most of what I know.

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
Keep your eyes open to new perspectives and appreciate the past.

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?
The Hyères Festival where I was devoted to find new talent and share it with the world.
