Massimo VERRONE

Group Creative Director | FCB

He was born as a textile designer. He started his new career as an Art Director in Publicis, later he worked for international advertising agencies like Lowe, Leagas Delaney, 1861united, Grey, Leo Burnett. Now he’s Group Creative Director, working for FCB Milan, Italy.

In August 2008 he’s founded the brand Keep-the-light-on. He lives out his passion for graphic design, producing artworks called lightboxes. 

From March 2013 he has been collaborating as a teacher at IED, Istituto Europeo di Design. Since May 2016 he became Advertising Communication Courses Coordinator at IED.

 Proud father of two, he still finds time to honor his past as a national champion of Italian Bowls.

1. What was your very first job

My first job was as a textile designer, I designed ties and scarves. 

 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails

I'm Group Creative Director working for FCB Italy. 

I coordinate the creative team for the development of integrated communication campaigns.

 

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today

 

From an early age, I always felt irregular, I was dreaming with my open eyes, and above all, I stopped to observe things that others didn’t otherwise notice. Instinct more than reason has always guided me.

My life changed the day I decided to leave my first job as a textile designer in my hometown of Como to move to Milan, pursuing my dream of becoming an art director. Then I met the creative director of Publcis Italy, who decided to give me a chance, intrigued by my portfolio entirely illustrated in tempera and watercolors.

 

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I find inspiration in the continuous search for beauty in all its forms, from art to music, from cinema to literature, to the feet of Zlatan Ibhrahimović and above all, in the connection with people from which to continue learning. Last but not least from travel, trying never to take the same road twice.

 

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

The piece of work that most involves me, and excites me, is called Keep-The-Light_On, it's a personal project. 

Through this I express my passion for graphic design, producing pieces called lightboxes. 

KTLO combines a passion for graphic design, illustration, photography and craftsmanship. It’s an exhortation to always keep your curiosity, inspiration and courage switched on.
