What was your very first job? What does it feel like to look back at it now?
Ad: First job was an assistant marketing/pr job with Mexx . It was late eighties, early nineties, and I was very young and impressed with the ‘fashion’ scene.  I did many jobs there and figured out what I wanted to do with the rest of my career.

Please describe, in your own words, what your current job is and what work it entails.
Right now, as head of design for Starbucks store design and concepts I lead a large team of about 60 designers and architects to create all the new stores and concepts in Emea region. My job is a combination of creative leadership, coaching, managing and strategizing.

How did you discover that the creative world is right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? Which train of events did bring you to where you are today?
I knew I wanted to work in the creative sector since I was a teenager. I always loved the world of innovation, fashion, art, design, architecture, movies, etc. What I like best is to bridge the world between the intangible and tangible. Art and Science. Create solutions which work in a commercial world, combine functional with beauty, surprise people, etc.

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how and where do you usually find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
I find inspiration in everything, all day long and everywhere. You just need to observe to get inspired; online and off-line. People in my team inspire me constantly, as well as my friends. Travel inspires me.

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, especially for the creative work and innovation it required rather than its recognition or industry success, what would it be?
That would be the creation and design of our personal home in Amsterdam.
